The name "Tanakh" is a Hebrew acronym formed from the initial Hebrew letters of the Masoretic Text's three traditional subdivisions:
- The Torah ("Teaching", also known as the Five Books of Moses),
- Nevi'im ("Prophets")
- and Ketuvim ("Writings")—hence TaNaKh
